Why is STEM learning important?

It is important for many reasons. “STEM innovations have been rapidly transforming our everyday lives; from the way we grow our food, to the way we cure diseases, connect with friends and family, and understand the world around us”. “STEM disciplines provides a pathway for children to explore a wide range of exciting areas in science, math, and engineering. Preschool children are naturally interested in science and math. Almost everything young children do involves exploring their world”.

“It’s about developing skills such as creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and curiosity. These skills are transferable to a wide range of situations that children may face later in life.” Not only this, but “children who engage in science and math regularly develop circuits to make learning in these areas faster and easier”, who believes that the neglect of these skills contributes to children being left behind. “it is key that everyone in society, not just a select few, are confident in engaging with STEM subjects in order to thrive in the modern world.”

What can be done to increase and improve the interest and education in STEM subjects in the early years?

“Children think like scientists. They are naturally curious because everything is new to them” , “Educators and parents will know how many ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions 3-year-olds can express about anything– ‘Why is the sky blue?’, ‘Why do we have two eyes?’, ‘How do fish breathe?’ and so on. However, how often do we treat these questions from children as scientific enquiries based on first-hand observations?”

“Practitioners and parents need to be educated. We know that children learn best when they can they interact with materials and observe the result. When this is accompanied by adult dialogue, they learn even more. Learning in science should be through scientific inquiry.”

“Supportive adults are key to STEM learning, particularly for girls and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Children need adults who believe that all young people are capable of reaching their full potential. “while engaging with children directly, we also seek to engage and inspire the adults who accompany young children in seeing the value of hands-on STEM learning.”

“Play in early childhood is essential to development”. Having this, “contributes to the cognitive, social and emotional well-being of children.”  To become confident STEM thinkers, children need to play. “Whether play is free or guided by an adult who offers activities inspired by the child’s interests, play is ideal for learning, practicing and developing new skills.”

How can STEM CSR uplift female education in India?

In this modern world it is clear that women are performing excellently in almost every profession, be it- an astronaut, a scientist, professor, teacher, doctor, entrepreneur etc. Whatever field you point out, women are setting new trademark on it. Women empowerment is growing with a vivid pace, so as to maintain the men to women ratio in all the realms of the workplace.

We need to have an education system where the practical knowledge is being taught and real-life learning is done. STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) effectively covers all these aspects. Government and several corporate also support STEM by CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) by funding and supporting programs and camps organized by STEM.

#1 Maintaining Girl’s Ratio in STEM

Current scenario of the education system has an imbalance of boys and girls ratio. Therefore it is a need to uplift girls in our country so that, they are not neglected from the quality education. STEM CSR avidly works in this field and helps to provides right quality education and real-life learning system for the students.

#2 Reducing Stereotype hindrances

There are so many stereotypes holding back the colorful future of girls. Society hits their confidence harshly. It breaks them and they give up thinking that they aren’t worthy. The irony is that it is happening in the same country where women are superpowers and are effectively performing their duty and responsibility. STEM CSR provides an encouraging platform for all the curious minds of the country. STEM also helps them realize their true potential and a clear path to their passion. By having an open and curious mind which understands and perceives knowledge correctly is set to be a success in future.

#3 Increasing Opportunities for girls

STEM CSR will help grow more employment opportunities for women. As per now, women are talented and skillful but due to less employment, they end being at home. STEM CSR will create more jobs for women where they can love what they do and help other teach manage or whatever task they opt for. Another indirect advantage is that the employed women will be a role model to those who are struggling in their life and it will boost their hope too!

#4 Fostering advanced level skill development in girls

There is constant touch towards the emerging needs of the modern world which STEM provides so that its students gain deep insights of the new and advancing technology and research. It helps students to develop the most demanding skills. The STEM is a boon for females in our country, as it helps females excel in learning and creating.

#5 Improving self-confidence and boosting self-esteem

The way of teaching STEM applies uplifts the overall confidence of students thereby making them a real-world problem solver by innovating and creating solutions. It creates a mindset of learning by fun. There remains no boredom in the process of learning because the process of rote learning is eliminated. STEM nourishes their talent and removes any hindrance coming in their path due to lack of confidence. Stem CSR makes this sure, that girls do not get laid back just because of lack of guidance and confidence.

Our education system has a gap between learning and its application in real world. This system continues until the end of school. With Stem CSR they will get some real working experience in the technological world. This surely will help them to become a better professional in their respective field.

How STEM CSR plays a major role in reforming the education system?

The STEM is a common word waving nowadays. In a brief way, it’s a combination of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, which has an ultimate potential to reinvent the education system. STEM education is a way of teaching and developing technical skills in students and providing them a practical insight of science. It is helpful for every stream of study and career, be it engineering, medical, banking, economics, arts, music etc. Our education system solely relies on rote learning, the methodology is very old and do not prepare our children for the modern world. They need a curious mind and well brushed up skills to meet the demands of this ever innovating era. For, the example we can’t use the letter system to communicate when we have instant messaging services.

The concern of development of a skillful society is being done with the help of CSR. STEM CSR is an acronym for Collective Social Responsibility. It is simply a program where the corporate fund the STEM projects and aids the STEM mentors to help children develop the required skills and knowledge required in this modern era, where the main focus is on proficiency and capability. The role comes into play majority in today’s world as we need more and more STEM mentors, STEM makerspace and institutions to make the young generation STEM-skilled and proficient.

Despite being the innovations and development in every field, countries in the modern world lacks in the reformation of the education system. Students must be equipped with attributes like critical analysis, practical approach and scientific ideas. The loopholes are accurately filled with the help of STEM CSR, it targets the right problem and eradicates the gap between the knowledge given through education and the demand as per the technological world.

STEM CSR provides an innovative platform to offer more opportunities to the young ignited minds. STEM Makerspace is one such example of a platform provided by CSR, where students can actually learn by performing experiments. There are many hidden talented minds in our country but comes from an unstable financial condition. CSR provides them fund and giving them their right to quality education. Companies like TATA group and Microsoft have funded CSR to promote and cultivate quality education among underprivileged sections of society. More CSR will result in the collective growth of all the sections of the country. This will thereby aid modern education system to reform and innovate.

Ever since the introduction of the STEM, it has become a very important factor in the development of the country as the development and education of students of a country affect the country directly. The innovative platform provided by STEM uplifts the way of learning. The learning is not limited to just bookish learning, we can now perform them in the real world to get a deep insight. If corporate and the society are willing to promote STEM curriculum along with existing curriculum then rate at which our education is going to reform will be at a higher pace. We will have a world full of scientists, engineer, doctors, entrepreneurs and many more excellent minds proficient in their field. These professionals can then be a very helping hand to the other corporates. The current education system is lacking the practical knowledge given to students. STEM fills this loophole and provide all the demanding skills to their students in a very easy, practical, and efficient way.

Role of STEM CSR in Indian Education System

The quality of education in a country determines its future to a great extent. For example, if we talk about Japan their kids are taught to run codes and program applications at a mere age of 10 years, also after fifth grade, they are free to choose their core subjects. Undoubtedly, as a result, Japan produces talented engineers, software developers, and entrepreneurs every year! In the recent years, India has also taken several steps to foster and provide the basic right to education to everyone irrespective of their social and economic background.

Education is the backbone of every society in this world, but what matters more is quality education. Good quality education is a foundation for dynamic and equitable societies. The challenge Indian education system facing today is not being proficient enough to provide quality education to every single kid in this country. To accomplish this challenge we need to link STEM with Indian education system. Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is a modern approach and is being attended throughout the world, especially in developing countries like India. Developed countries are already enjoying STEM education’s impact. Stem education in India has a great significance as it enables students to learn in a scientific, systematic and logical manner. Stem education has the potential to convert illusions into the reality of young minds.
